Kapuche Lake is being developed as a travel destination

Kapuche Lake, located in Ward No. 1 of Madi Rural Municipality in Gandaki Province, is being developed as a unique tourist destination, offering breathtaking panoramic views of multiple mountains. The glacial lake, which spans 10,440 square meters and sits at an altitude of 2,421 meters, is believed to have been formed by continuous avalanches between Annapurna II and Annapurna IV. The lake’s name, derived from the local Gurung language, means “snowy round plain,” with ‘kwa’ referring to snow, ‘pu’ meaning round, and ‘che’ signifying plain land.

One of the most intriguing features of the lake is its position as one of the lowest glacier lakes in the country, as most glacial lakes are found at altitudes of around 4,000 meters. The lake’s stunning visuals, particularly the colorful sunrays reflecting off the green, glassy waters, along with the surrounding wildflowers in bloom during the monsoon, make it an exceptional destination for nature lovers.

Kapuche Lake is accessible via a six-hour trek from Sikles through Hugu, and the route, which includes sheds used for livestock, is undergoing development into tourist-friendly accommodations, including hotels and restaurants, to support the increasing number of visitors.

With its pristine beauty and unique characteristics, Kapuche Lake is set to become a significant draw for tourists, adding to Nepal’s diverse array of natural attractions
