The Annapurna Region, a well-known destination for adventure trekking, has set a new record for tourist arrivals in 2024. A total of 244,045 foreign tourists visited the area, surpassing the previous record set in 2023 with 191,558 tourists. This growth is especially significant following the severe decline in visitors due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The record-setting number in 2024 includes 132,094 tourists from South Asia and 111,951 from other countries.
Dr. Rabin Kadariya, Chief of the Annapurna Conservation Area Project (ACAP), noted the substantial rise in tourist numbers, marking a major recovery for the region’s tourism sector. Popular trekking destinations like the Annapurna Circuit, Annapurna Base Camp Trek, Mardi Himal Trek, and Tilicho Lake continue to attract trekkers, both domestic and international, drawn by the region’s stunning landscapes, biodiversity, and cultural heritage.
The Annapurna region has earned global recognition, having been named one of the top travel destinations by Lonely Planet and CNN. The rise in visitors reflects a positive trend in Nepal’s tourism recovery and growth in the post-pandemic era.
