Ghorepani Poon Hill Trekking,  with Wildlife Adventure tour is a perfect combination of jungle Safari in Chitwan National Park and glimpses of magnificent Himalayas while trekking to Ghorepani. The spectacular views of Dhaulagiri, Hiunchuli, Annapurna South, and Machhapuchhre from the apex of Poon hillHill are impressive. On the other hand, the trails to Ghorepani offer an opportunity to view stunning sub-tropical valleys. We can also explore the deep rhododendron forests and icy waterfalls on the trail.

Poon Hill Trekking begins from Nayapul. We will then walk up to Tikhedhunga. Our trail passes through grazing scenery and moves through oak as well as rhododendron woods. A Poon Hill Hike to get the stunning views of Pokhara Valley, snow-capped Fishtail, Annapurna ranges, Dhaulagiri Ranges, and many other peaks. You can view attractive sub-tropical valleys, rhododendron forests, and waterfalls en route to the Ghandruk.

After Poon Hill Trekking, we drive to Chitwan National Park to visit the Park Visitor’s Center. We can see the sunset views by relaxing on the bank of the Rapti River and enjoying the night with the Tharu cultural dance. And also we see an elephant bath or bird watching on the river beach.

Day 01: Arrival Kathmandu (1,300m/4,264ft)

Day 03: Early in the morning drive by tourist bus from Kathmandu to Pokhara(900m).

Day 04: After breakfast drive to Nayapul and trek to Tikhedhunga village 4hr (1960m).

Day 05: Hiking up to Ghorepani through Rhododendron Forest 5 hr (2860m).

Day 06: Early in the morning Hiking up to Poonhill (3210m)

Day 07: Trek to Tadapani to Ghandruk 4 Hr (1920m)

Day 08: Trek to Ghandruk to Nayapul and Drive to Pokhara.

Day 09: Pokhara to Chitwan 160 km (6 Hrs).

Day 10: Chitwan Jungle Safari Activities

Day 01: Arrival in Kathmandu
Upon your arrival at Kathmandu International Airport, a Himalayan Sanctuary Adventure representative welcomes you outside the terminal gate holding a placard with your name. Then transfer you to the hotel.

Day 02: Kathmandu Valley Sightseeing
You head for a day tour of the Kathmandu Valley to visit the major World Heritage Sites and beautiful attractions around the valley. After breakfast, you proceed on to Boudhanath Stupa, Pashupatinath Temple, Patan Durbar Square, and Swayambhunath Stupa. Swayambhunath is a Buddhist Stupa said to be more than 2000 years old, on the brink of a hillock 77 meters above the valley floor, and offering a splendid view of Kathmandu City. Afternoon, a tour of Patan, also known as Lalitpur or the “city of beauty” is one of the oldest cities in the valley. It is a great city both for the Newari Buddhist religion and traditional arts & crafts with 136 courtyards and 55 major temples. Overnight at your hotel in Kathmandu.

Day 03: Drive to Pokhara (Tourist bus)
After breakfast, a scenic drive on a tourist bus with a guide to Pokhara. A pleasant ride adoring the breathtaking sceneries enter the tourist capital Pokhara. Rest at a hotel and later explore nearby places. Stay overnight.

Day 04: Drive to Nayapul and trek to Tikhedhunga (4hr)
An hour’s drive to Nayapul from Pokhara. The trek begins from here climbing the staircase and crossing the river. Reach Birethanti and from there walk in the vicinity of bamboo forests, waterfalls, and pasturelands to reach Sudami village. A gradual walk passes Hile and finally, arrives at Tikhedhunga. Stay overnight.

Day 05: Hike up to Ghorepani 4 hr (2860m)
We hike up to Ghorepani today. Walk through traversing a river bridge over Bhurungdi Khola. Enjoy the surrounding scenery of grazing animals, terraced fields, and cultivated crops, and pass the oak and rhododendron forests. Cross Nangethanti village and arrive at Ghorepani. Stay overnight.

Day 06: Poon Hill Hike (3210m) and trek to Tadapani for 4hr (2100m).
An early morning hike to Poon Hill. The hill is a famous viewpoint for sunrise and sunset and sights of snow-capped Fishtail, Annapurna, Dhaulagiri ranges, and Pokhara Valley. Enjoy the breathtaking scenery and trek to Tadapani. Stay Overnight.

Day 07: Trek to Ghandruk 4 Hr (1920m)
A trek to beautiful Gurung village Ghandruk witnessing lovely sub-tropical valleys, dense woods, and cascading waterfalls. The stunning view of Dhaulagiri, Tukuche, and surrounding peaks from Ghandruk. Stay Overnight.

Day 08: Trek to Ghandruk to Nayapul to Pokhara (4 – 5 Hr)
We trek back to Pokhara from Ghandruk. Walk downhill on a pleasant trail and enjoy the beautiful surroundings to reach Nayapul. Upon reaching Nayapul, drive back to Pokhara in a vehicle. Stay Overnight at a hotel.

Day 09:  Pokhara to Chitwan drive 160 Km (4- 5 Hrs)
We drive to Chitwan taking around 4 hours. We visit the Park Visitor’s Center where you can see the record list of flora and fauna inside Chitwan National Park. We can also see sunset views while relaxing on the bank of the Rapti River. In addition, you can also witness Tharu cultural dance performed by the local villagers. Stay overnight.

Day 10: Chitwan Jungle Safari Activities
Jungle Safari Activity in Chitwan should not be missed. Our second day commences with a Jungle Safari experience inside the Chitwan National Park. Chitwan National Park is home to one-horned rhinos, Royal Bengal Tigers, elephants, crocodiles, and other animals of various species. Witness various species of animals during the jungle safari. Witness elephant bathing and have a jungle walk with a guide. You can also enjoy a canoe ride. Relax near the river shore and get a glimpse of the number of bird species flying. Overnight at the hotel.

Day 11: Chitwan to Kathmandu 146 Km/5 Hrs.
We return to Kathmandu with collecting some great memories after exploring Chitwan National Park. The diverse flora and fauna in the vicinity of the National Park are truly magical. Stay Overnight in Kathmandu.

Day 12: Departure at your own Destination

Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek Difficulty

Poon Hill at an elevation of 3210 m is the maximum elevation during the Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek. This is a relatively easy trek and is not very difficult compared to the Annapurna and Everest base camp treks. Still, a good level of fitness requires walking for long hours daily. Prepare and plan well as this trek is easily doable.

Altitude Sickness and Preventions during the Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek

Getting altitude sickness during the Ghorepani Poon Hill trek is very minimal as the highest elevation is at 3210 m. This elevation is considered the safe altitude mark. For only a few hours, trekkers will be here, and getting altitude sickness is very low. But, still, precautions are necessary. Some common Symptoms of altitude sickness are headache, nausea, and breathing issues. Inform your guides if you experience any symptoms during the trek.

 Preventive measures for Altitude Sickness are:

  • Stretch and warm up before trekking.
  • Stay hydrated with regular water intake.
  • Ascend gradually and rest well.

Will somebody come to pick me up from the airport upon my arrival ?
Yes, our airport representative from Himalayan Sanctuary Adventure will be there to pick you up at the airport. S/he will be displaying your name outside the arrival terminal then you will be transferred to your hotel overnight.

Can I extend my trek to Annapurna Base Camp ?
Yes, you can extend your trek to Annapurna Base Camp. However, it might get harder to extend the schedule in the peak seasons as our team members might be on a tight schedule. But you can do it nevertheless and the price will be changed accordingly.

Is there any risk of Altitude Sickness ?
No. There is little chance of risk of altitude sickness during Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek. 3000 m is the safe mark for altitude sickness and you will be crossing it only when you hike to Poon Hill. As you will not spend the night at that altitude, it will not be much of a problem. But you can always take precautions.

What opportunities will I have for showering along the trek ?
Yes, most of the guesthouses provide proper running common cold showers and Common toilet facilities.

Are the guesthouses heated ?
The guesthouse does not facilitate with heater or air conditioner. However as it gets colder above 3,500m, they do have the facility of hitting the dining area by providing kerosene or metal heater. USD 1 to USD 3 per person would be applicable to use this service and this is payable directly to the guesthouse.

Where do we go to the toilet along the trail ?
Wherever possible we utilize the toilet facilities provided by the tea houses/lodges on the trail. However, in case of emergency trekkers are recommended to find a private, scenic spot!

What are the Toilet facilities in the tea house/guesthouse ?
Most of the tea houses do have western-style flushing toilets however tea houses at higher elevations you could find the squat toilets made of either a ceramic basin on the ground or a few planks precariously positioned over a hole in the ground which is always outside.

What is the best season for this trekking ?
From early September the monsoonal rains decrease. By the end of September through to December, the weather is usually stable with mild to warm days, and cold nights. February, March, April, May, October, November, and December is the best time to do the Ghorepani Poon hill trek with wildlife adventure.

Can I obtain a visa for Nepal upon arrival at the airport ?
YES, you can obtain a visa easily upon your arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu. A tourist Visa with Multiple Entries for 30 days can be obtained by paying US $ 40 or equivalent foreign currency. Similarly, a Tourist Visa with Multiple entries for 90 days can be obtained by paying US $ 100. Please bring 2 copies of passport-size photos.

How much additional money do I need per day ?
It depends on your spending habits. Generally, in Kathmandu and Pokhara, you can allocate USD 10 to USD 15 for lunch and dinner. USD 20 to USD 30 per person a day will be enough to buy meals, bottles of water, and chocolates, pay for the hot shower, and a few drinks during the trekking.

Can I use credit cards in the places I visit in trekking ?
Yes, you can use your credit card in Kathmandu and Pokhara,  Once you are out of the cities, all you need is cash. Please change the currency to local Nepali Rupees before you go to the mountains.

What mode of transportation do you use ?
We provide you only those options, which enhance your local experience while allowing you to travel comfortably and efficiently. We use private tourist vehicles for sightseeing, city tours, and pick-ups. Depending on the group size we use cars, minibuses, vans, and tourist bus to and from Kathmandu/ Pokhara.

Is water provided or is there water available for drink drinking at higher altitudes ? Is it filtered/boiled ?
Bottled water is easily available at the lodges and tea houses. You can buy bottled water at the cost of USD 2 at lower elevations and up to USD 3 at higher elevation per littler. You can also drink the normal tap or spring water if you bring the purifying aid with you.
