The Khopra Danda and Annapurna Base Camp (ABC) Trek is a spectacular 13-day adventure that combines the beauty of Annapurna Base Camp with the lesser-traveled but equally stunning Khopra Danda. This trek takes you deep into the Annapurna region, one of the most famous trekking areas in the world, offering incredible mountain views, cultural experiences, and a sense of adventure. Here’s a detailed overview of the journey:

Day 01: Kathmandu Arrival (1,300m/4,264ft)

A representative from HSA will be waiting for you at the arrival terminal gate of Tribhuvan International Airport, holding a sign with your name. They will escort you to your hotel for an overnight stay in Kathmandu.

Day 02: Kathmandu Valley Sightseeing (4 – 6hr)

You will visit the major world heritage sites and beautiful attractions around the valley throughout today. Some of these might be:- Durbar Squares Three durbar squares in the valley representing the major cities of Kathmandu, Bhaktapur, and Lalitpur (Patan) here resemble the rich history, art, and culture of the Kathmandu Valley. Among them, you will visit Patan Durbar Square.

  • Patan Durbar Square: Patan Durbar Square is a fascinating combination of palace buildings, artistic courtyards, and graceful pagoda temples. The Krishna Mandir (Temple) from the 17th century is a major attraction. The patanPatan museum contains bronze statues and other religious objects which has great significance. Durbar Square has both religious and cultural importance and the surroundings are artistically beautiful.
  • Pashupatinath Temple: The Pashupatinath Temple is one of the most significant Hindu temples in Asia with over 500 small and big shrines, Lingams, and temples in the temple complex.
  • Boudhanath Stupa: The largest stupa and center of Tibetan Buddhism that is in the Kathmandu valley. One of the best places to relax and take a hint of Buddhist culture is in Kathmandu. After the Sightseeing, we will drive you back to the hotel.
  • Swayambhunath Temple: Also known as the ‘Monkey Temple’, this is one of the oldest heritage sites in Nepal. From the top viewpoint, you will have an amazing view of the capital city “Kathmandu”. Included Meal: Breakfast

Day 03: Drive to Pokhara (895m / 2936 feet) 7 – 9 hour

Our trekking staff will pick you up at the hotel at around 6:30 am and escort you to the tourist bus station. The bus leaves at around 7:00 am to Pokhara. Pokhara is also known for its panoramic views of Annapurna, Dhaulagiri, Lamjung, and Manaslu. It is smaller and much less crowded comparing Kathmandu providing the perfect starting point for our trek. Included Meal: Breakfast

Day 04: Drive to Nayapul (1,010 m) and Trek to Ulleri(2045m/6709feet) 5 – 7 hours

We will begin our trek at Nayapul after an hour’s drive on a private vehicle from Pokhara. We will reach Birethanti (1,015 m), after a short minute walk on Modi Khola. Birethanti is a large village with many teahouses and shops. The trail climbs gradually up the side of the Hile Valley. We will reach Tikhedhunga, after a short climb. Today’s walk is comparatively short and easy, a preface to the trekking experience in the Annapurna region. Included Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner

Day 05: Trek to Ghorepani (2,850m/9,350ft) 4 – 5 hours

We will move on towards the steep climb to a large Magar village Ulleri. The trail ascends mildly from this point, through lush forests of pine, oak, and rhododendrons. Then we will trek towards Nangethanti and after an hour’s walk, we will arrive at Ghorepani (2,840 m).

Trek Distance: 9.3 km (5.7 miles)

Day 06: Ghorepani (2,850m/9,350ft) Trek to Swanta (2,260 meters / 7,415 feet):

After breakfast, you’ll continue your journey, heading toward Swanta, a charming village. The trek from Ghorepani to Swanta is around 3-4 hours and passes through lush forests, beautiful terraced fields, and picturesque villages. As you descend in altitude, you’ll notice the change in flora and the more remote nature of the village. Swanta is a quiet, peaceful village, offering a great place to rest and experience local life in the region.  The early morning can be cold, especially at higher altitudes like Poon Hill. Make sure to wear layers to stay warm but be able to adjust as the day warms up. Comfortable Footwear: A good pair of hiking boots with ankle support will make the trek more comfortable, especially for the descent. Water and Snacks: Carry water and light snacks to keep you energized during the hike. Camera: Don’t forget to bring your camera for the stunning mountain views at Poon Hill. In Summary: Your trek from Poon Hill to Swanta will be an exciting day, filled with beautiful mountain views, a peaceful atmosphere, and a glimpse into the culture of the Annapurna region. The early start is well worth it for the magical sunrise from Poon Hill and the chance to explore the scenic trails leading to Swanta.

 

Day 07:  The trek from Swanta(2,260 meters / 7,415 feet) to Khopra Ridge(3,660 meters (12,008 feet)

The trek from Swanta to Khopra Ridge promises to be another incredible day of hiking through the beautiful Annapurna region.  The day begins with a moderate ascent as you leave the village of Swanta behind. You’ll pass through lush forests, fields, and pastures, with various flora and fauna along the way. The trail initially leads through a mixture of dense forests and open pastures where you may spot Himalayan yaks grazing. These sturdy animals are often seen in the high-altitude regions, contributing to the rural life of the area. Mountains in the Background: As you make your way upward, the trail rewards you with stunning views of the Himalayas. Mount Dhaulagiri (8,167 meters / 26,795 feet) and the Annapurna range will dominate the horizon, offering dramatic vistas throughout the trek. The combination of vast pastures and the towering peaks in the background makes for some amazing photo opportunities. Ascent to Khopra Ridge (3,660 meters / 12,008 feet): After several hours of steady ascent, you will reach Khopra Ridge at an elevation of 3,660 meters (12,008 feet). This high-altitude viewpoint is famous for offering spectacular views of both the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri mountain ranges. Khopra Ridge is particularly renowned for its sunrise and sunset views, where the sunlight casts beautiful hues across the snow-capped peaks, creating an unforgettable experience. If you’re staying overnight at Khopra Ridge, this will be the perfect spot to enjoy these mesmerizing moments. Trek Distance: 9.6 km (5.9 miles)

Day 08: The trek from Khopra Ridge(3,660 meters / 12,008 feet) to Bayeli Kharka(3,460 meters / 11,352 feet)

The trek from Khopra Ridge to Bayeli Kharka is a beautiful and moderate descent, preparing you for the journey to Annapurna Base Camp. After spending time at Khopra Ridge with its stunning views of the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri mountain ranges, it’s time to start descending. The trail initially takes you through lush rhododendron forests, offering a rich landscape of vibrant blooms (especially in spring) and a serene atmosphere. You will also pass through bamboo forests and a few yak pastures, providing a peaceful, rural trekking experience. Trail Through Nature: As you continue your descent, you’ll notice the transition from high-altitude alpine meadows to lower forested areas, with a variety of flora and fauna along the way. The dense vegetation, combined with views of distant peaks, adds to the charm of the trek. You may also encounter local villagers and herders with livestock, adding to the cultural richness of the trek. The Junction and Short Climb to Bayeli Kharka: After some descending, you’ll reach a junction where the trail splits. From here, you’ll take the path that leads you to Bayeli Kharka. The final section of the trek to Bayeli Kharka involves a short climb. This is a relatively gentle ascent, allowing you to gradually adjust to the change in altitude. Bayeli Kharka (3,460 meters / 11,352 feet): Bayeli Kharka is a small village or pasture area located at an altitude of 3,460 meters (11,352 feet). From here, you’ll be treated to fantastic views of Mount Dhaulagiri (8,167 meters / 26,795 feet), one of the highest mountains in the world. The sight of Dhaulagiri, especially in the late afternoon or early morning, is truly spectacular. The village is quieter and more secluded, offering a peaceful resting spot after a day of trekking. Overnight Stay and Views: After reaching Bayeli Kharka, you’ll likely stay in a basic lodge or guesthouse for the night. Enjoy the tranquility and the stunning mountain views as you relax. The area around Bayeli Kharka is known for its panoramic vistas, including Dhaulagiri and the surrounding peaks. This is an excellent place to take in the surrounding natural beauty before continuing your trek the next day.

Day 09:Trek from Bayeli Kharka to Tadapani 

Your trek begins with a slight ascent from Bayeli Kharka, which will warm you up for the day’s hike. After a short climb, the trail starts its descent toward the flat region at Dobato. This section is relatively gentle, giving you a chance to enjoy the morning views and the peaceful surroundings of the region. Descent to Dobato: Dobato is a relatively flat area that serves as a brief resting point on your journey. As you walk, you will be surrounded by a mix of rhododendron, bamboo, and pine forests, creating a beautiful natural environment. Depending on the time of year, the rhododendrons may be in bloom, adding vibrant colors to the landscape. Crossing a Small Pass: After Dobato, you’ll face a short ascent to cross a small pass, offering panoramic views of the surrounding mountains and valleys. This section can feel a bit challenging, but the views make the effort worthwhile. Arriving at Isharu: Once you cross the small pass, you’ll reach the Isharu area, a small settlement where you can stop for a break or enjoy the views. The trail here continues to wind through forested terrain, which is lush and full of life, with the chance to see local wildlife and plant species. Trekking to Tadapani via Meshar Settlement: From Isharu, you’ll continue trekking toward Tadapani, passing through the Meshar settlement, a small village that provides a glimpse of the local culture and lifestyle. The final part of the trek involves descending further into the valley toward Tadapani. As you get closer, you will be rewarded with more mountain views, especially of peaks like Machapuchare (Fishtail), which is one of the most iconic mountains in Nepal. Tadapani is a popular stop for trekkers, offering a good place to rest after a day of hiking. You’ll reach Tadapani at an elevation of 2,700 meters (8,860 feet), where you can relax and enjoy the surrounding views. The village sits on a ridge and offers fantastic views of the Annapurna and Machapuchare mountain ranges. Tadapani is a perfect place to unwind, as it is a quiet village with guesthouses and teahouses. You can enjoy a comfortable evening, knowing you have made good progress on your trek toward Annapurna Base Camp.  The trek from Bayeli Kharka to Tadapani covers a mix of altitudes, so be mindful of how your body feels. Footwear: The trail can be rocky and uneven, especially around the small pass and descending sections. Ensure you have sturdy, comfortable footwear to make the trek smoother. Rhododendron Season: If you’re trekking in spring, the rhododendrons will be in full bloom, creating a spectacular landscape. However, be prepared for wet conditions in the forest, as it may rain in the afternoon during the monsoon season. Water and Snacks: Carry enough water and some energy-boosting snacks to keep you going throughout the trek, as the day can be long and tiring. In Summary: The trek from Bayeli Kharka to Tadapani takes you through a beautiful mix of rhododendron forests, bamboo groves, and small settlements, all while descending gradually toward Tadapani. The views of Annapurna and Machapuchare along the way make this a memorable day. The final descent to Tadapani offers the chance to relax in a peaceful village with stunning mountain vistas, setting you up nicely for the next stage of your journey. 

Trek Distance: 5.8 km (3.6 miles)

 

Day 10: Tadapani to Sinuwa(2340 m/7,677 ft).(6 – 7 hours trek)

Our trail opens up to beautifully terraced fields. We will walk uphill for around 5 km and pass waterfalls and reach a suspension bridge. Suspension bridges are very common in the hilly and mountainous regions of Nepal. A few more miles of ascents and descents and we will reach our destination Chhomrong. It is a beautiful village right below the giant Annapurna massive. Stay overnight in Chhomrong.

Day 11: Sinuwa(2340 m/7,677 ft) to Deurali (3230m/10,595ft): 8 – 10 hours

We will wake up with beautiful vistas of the White Mountain from our lodge in perfect weather or else enjoy the morning with a delicious breakfast and a cup of tea/coffee. We will climb on stone steps for an hour to reach Sinwa Danda after crossing the suspension bridge over Chhomrong Khola. We will pass through a bamboo forest that is damp and cold. We then walk uphill on a trail that is sometimes steep. Enjoying and walking through the forests of bamboo, and rhododendron, we will ascent to the Himalayas and then another ascent to reach our destination Deurali. Stay overnight at the teahouse. Day 12: Deurali to Annapurna Base Camp (4,130m) via Machhapuchhre Base Camp (3700m): 5- 7 hours

The trail sticks to a steep rocky cliff. We will walk on a somewhat flat path for a while before ascending to Machhapuchhre Base Camp. From here, we will get excellent views of Mt. Hiunchuli, Annapurna South, Annapurna I, Annapurna III, and surrounding peaks. We then turn left and begin ascending gently to the Annapurna Base Camp. During our climb, we can appreciate remarkable views of the Himalayan panorama. Hiking further we will reach the base camp and the scenery is amazing. We are surrounded by magnificent peaks and the only way into this area is through the gorge we just hiked. Stay overnight at Annapurna Base Camp.

Day 13: Annapurna Base Camp to Bamboo (2,300m/7,544 ft.) 7 – 8 hours

From Annapurna Base Camp our trail rapidly descends past the Machhapuchhre Base Camp, Deurali, Himalaya, and Dovan, and finally to Bamboo where we spend the night. Today’s trek is downhill so it is easy. Stay overnight in Bamboo. Included Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner

Day 14: Bamboo to Jhinu Danda (1760m): 5 – 6 hours

Today we will trek to Jhinu Danda from Bamboo. We will retrace our step back to Chhomrong where we stop for lunch. We will stop for lunch at Chhomrong. We will descend to reach Jhinu dandaDanda after stepping on stones and crossing Chhomrong through Modi Khola Valley. Enjoy walking through rainforests and farms before reaching Jhinu. Stay overnight at Jhinu Danda.

Day 15: Jhinu Danda to Birethati (5 – 7hrs Trek) and drive back to Pokhara, 1 1/2 hrs drive

For the last day of the trek, we start by passing New Bridge and Kyumi village, where we stop for lunch. After lunch, we trek to Syauli Bazaar and then down to Birethanti and drive back to Pokhara.

Day 16: Drive back to Kathmandu (7 – 9hr)

In the morning, we will be driving back to Kathmandu. We will take you for a cultural dinner in the evening as successful completion of the Nepal trip. Stay overnight in Kathmandu.
