Nepal Tour
The Nepal tour comprises several popular destinations. Kathmandu Valley is located in Nepal. Until the 15th century, Bhaktapur was its capital when two other capitals, Kathmandu and Lalitpur, were established. After the annexation of the valley by the Gorkha Kingdom and subsequent conversion of the valley as the capital of their empire, the designation of “Nepal” was extended to every land they conquered. The Kathmandu Valley is the most developed and populated place in Nepal. The majority of offices and headquarters are located in the valley, making it the economic hub of Nepal.
The Chitwan Valley is an Inner Terai valley in the south of Nepal, encompassing the districts of Makwanpur, Chitwan, and Nawalparasi. The valley is part of the Terai-Duar savanna and grasslands ecoregion of about 150 km. The Chitwan Valley is drained by the (East) Rapti River, which flows from the eastern Mahabharat Range into the valley near Hetauda, where it turns west and flows along the axis of the valley.
Lumbini is a Buddhist pilgrimage site in the Rupandehi District of Nepal. It is the place where, according to Buddhist tradition, Queen Mayadevi gave birth to Siddhartha Gautama in Gautama, who achieved nirvana sometime around and became the Gautama Buddha and founded Buddhism after achieving Enlightenment. Lumbini is one of many magnets for pilgrimage that sprang up in places pivotal to the life of Gautama Buddha; other notable pilgrimage sites include Kushinagar, Bodh Gaya, and Sarnath.
Lumbini has a number of temples, including the Mayadevi Temple and several others that are still under construction. Many monuments, monasteries, and a museum — the Lumbini International Research Institute – are also located within the holy site. Also located there is the Puskarini, or Holy Pond, where the Buddha’s mother took the ritual dip before his birth and where he, too, had his first bath. At other sites near Lumbini, earlier Buddhas were, according to tradition, born, achieved ultimate Enlightenment, and finally relinquished their earthly forms.
Pokhara lies in the center of Kaski District, Gandaki Province. Pokhara is also the second largest city of Nepal with an area of 55.22 sq. km2 and a population of 264,991, according to the 2011 census. The city is located approximately 200 km west of the country’s capital, Kathmandu.
